ABSTRACT
Abstract This study contains the current list of austral pycnogonids together with details their depth range and distribution. To date 264 species have been recorded, accounting for 19.6% 1344 recorded worldwide. One hundred eight are endemic to Antarctic waters, 62 sub-Antarctic, 63 common in both regions, 55 circumpolar. The richest genus is Nymphon , 67 area Scotia Sea. Comparing lists between years 2000 2007 shows that increased expeditions more sampling has circumpolarity decreased zonal endemicity. benthic insular refuge hypothesis proposed as an explanation southern distribution present pycnogonid fauna, origin Arc.
