ABSTRACT
Saponins are one type of widespread defense compound in the plant kingdom and have been exploited for production lead compounds with diverse pharmacological properties drug discovery. Oats contain two unique steroidal saponins, avenacoside A, 1, B, 2. However, chemical composition, levels these saponins commercial oat products, their health effects still largely unknown. In this study, we directly purified 5 (1-5) from a methanol extract bran, characterized structures by analyzing MS NMR spectra, also tentatively identified 11 (6-16) on basis tandem mass spectra (MS(n), n = 2-3). Among five is new 4 oats first time. Using HPLC-MS techniques, complete profile was determined, contents primary 1 2, were quantitated 15 different products. The total vary 49.6 to 443.0 mg/kg, bran or oatmeal has higher than cold cereal. Furthermore, our results inhibitory 2 against growth human colon cancer cells HCT-116 HT-29 showed that both had weak activity, being more active 1.
