ABSTRACT
This study reports on a headspace-based gas chromatography (HS-GC) technique for determining the degree of substitution (DS) cationic guar gum during synthesis process. The method is based determination 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride in process medium. After modest pretreatment procedure, sample was added to headspace vial containing bicarbonate solution measurement evolved CO2 by HS-GC. results showed that had good precision (relative standard deviation <3.60%) and accuracy measurement, with recoveries range 96-102%, matching data obtained reference method, were within 12% values more arduous Kjeldahl calculated DS gum. HS-GC requires only small volume and, thus, suitable laboratory-scale process-related applications.
