ABSTRACT
The structures of Pd islands at three different coverages (0.028, 0.064, and 0.150 monolayer (ML)) on Ag(111) were studied room temperature with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). While previous studies have shown that the structure composition change elevated temperatures, we found Ag atoms migrate to cover even temperature. These occupy sites in middle islands, second layer growth begins these sites. migration leads formation vacancy terraces. Upon annealing 340 K, majority are encapsulated by form an Ag/Pd/Ag(111) structure. However, upon further some a coverage ML changed Ag/Ag/Pd/Ag(111).
