ABSTRACT
For atherosclerosis (AS) management, a therapeutic drug intervention is the most widely used strategy. However, there are some problems such as low location specificity, high intake, and side effects. Nanomedicine can prolong half-life of solubilization, reduce toxic effects, improve distribution objects. Herein, to overcome challenges, an erythrocyte-based "plug play" nanoplatform was developed by incorporating vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) targeting acid stimulus responsibility. After function moieties conjugated with DSPE-PEG, peptide acid-sensitive prodrug were conveniently integrated into red blood cells' surface for enhancing target AS delivery controlling local release. As proof principle, plug play targeted acid-control release demonstrated, achieving marked effect AS.
