ABSTRACT
Facile fabrication of novel functional membranes with excellent dual thermo- and pH-responsive characteristics has been achieved by simply designing dual-layer composite membranes. pH-Responsive poly(styrene)-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) block copolymers polystyrene blended thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) nanogels are respectively used to construct the top layer bottom The stretching/coiling conformation changes P4VP chains around pKa (∼3.5–4.5) provide extraordinary characteristics, volume phase transitions PNIPAM at pore/matrix interfaces in transition temperature (VPTT, ∼33 °C) great characteristics. microstructures, permeability performances, stimuli-responsive can be well tuned adjusting content thickness PS-b-P4VP layer. water fluxes changed order magnitude changing environment pH, permeation performances satisfactorily reversible reproducible. membrane strategy this work provides valuable guidance for further development or even multi
