ABSTRACT
Photonic shape memory (SM) polymers based on liquid crystalline blue phase (BP) films have been fabricated by self-assembly and subsequent photopolymerization of liquid-crystal mixtures. These freestanding BP exhibit narrow photonic band gaps high reflectivity in the visible wavelength range. Multiple blue-shift colors are achieved SM programming process at different mechanical pressures. The can be attributed to a decrease effective pitch along viewing direction caused compressed deformation films, which confirmed three-dimensional interometric profile. deformed recover their original shapes reflecting heating polymer temperatures above glass-transition temperature. Quantitative relationships between change optical response established for understanding this effect. What is more, temporary patterns reversibly written erased dozens cycles without apparent degradation, making these appealing as rewritable papers sensors.
