ABSTRACT
Quantification of bacterial pathogens in the environment is crucial for determining their potential risk pathogenicity and infection. Here, we applied quantitative sequencing (qSeq) based on 16S rRNA gene with spike-in internal standards comprehensive pathogen quantification a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). A novel database biosafety levels (BSLs) was constructed rapid identification. Pathogen taxonomies were obtained from using basic local alignment search tool, amounts quantified by regression analysis standards. The total concentrations gradually decreased 6.8 ± 4.9 × 107 copies/mL influent to 1.6 1.4 105 effluent. BSL2 (e.g., Aeromonas spp., Mycobacterium Klebsiella pathogenic Escherichia spp.) detected more than 4.0 103 at genus Arcobacter (BSL1) showed highest abundance throughout WWTP (8.8 8.1 104 2.5 3.5 copies/mL). spp. noticeably increased anaerobic (2.3 106 copies/mL) least removal qSeq provided holistic view microbial dynamics ecology WWTP.
