ABSTRACT
A series of nonlinear optical chromophores based on configurationally locked polyene are synthesized, and the single crystal growth from melt investigated. The consist a π-conjugated hexatriene bridge between dialkylamino or methoxy electron donors dicyanomethylidene acceptor. physical properties X-ray structures these characterized. Specifically, chromophore 2-{3-[2-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)vinyl]-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene}malononitrile (DAT2) exhibits strong powder second-harmonic generation signal about 2 orders magnitude greater than that urea large temperature difference 80 °C melting recrystallization temperature. Finally, we demonstrate crystalline thin films DAT2 by Bridgman-type technique, which gives new direction for organic engineering using melt−growth techniques.
