ABSTRACT
Experimental research was conducted to clarify the wettability alteration mechanism in presence of metal cations. Wettability studied by measuring contact angle on a quartz–crude oil–water system. The quartz surface is aged an asphaltene/toluene solution study effect aging time, asphaltene concentration, water film surface, and cations surface. property characterized with ζ-potential measurements infrared (IR) spectroscopy mechanism. Results show that becomes more oil-wet increase concentration. pure shows less oil-wetting after soaking compared dry while can improve oil ζ-Potential Ca2+ Mg2+ compress diffused double layer powder effectively than Na+, which makes adsorption easier because reduced electrostatic repulsion. IR spectra analysis indicates molecules interact hydroxyls polar interactions be absorbed ion binding hydrated divalent
