ABSTRACT
Silver double nanorings with circular intra-nanogaps between two of different diameters were synthesized without a linker molecule to confine an incident electromagnetic field in single entity. We used on-demand, rational, and systematic multi-stepwise reactions consisting (1) selective etching gold, (2) rim-on deposition platinum, (3) eccentric growth (4) concentric silver. The resulting silver exhibited high degree homogeneity both shape size, strongly coupled hot zones (or "hot halos", referring the capable focusing near field) from strong surface plasmon coupling inner outer nanorings. Remarkably, these strong, stable, reproducible single-particle surface-enhanced Raman scattering signals blinking. appeared independently polarization directions, which is unique feature halo. estimated enhancement factor was 2 × 108 7 108. measured limit detection 10–7 M bulk concentration, signal 570 s after sample exposure.
