ABSTRACT
Despite the enormous application potential, methods for conformal few-atomic-layer deposition on colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) are scarce. Similar to process of lamination, we introduce a "confine and shine" strategy homogeneously modify different surface curvatures plasmonic NCs with ultrathin layers diverse catalytic noble metals. This self-limited epitaxial skinlike metal growth harvests localized plasmon resonance induce reduction chemistry directly NC surface, confined inside hollow silica. avoids any kinetic anisotropic deposition. Unlike conventional thick, anisotropic, dendritic shells, which show severe nonradiative damping, lamination preserves key properties core NCs. Consequently, plasmonic–catalytic hybrid nanoreactors can carry out variety organic reactions impressive rates.
