ABSTRACT
Mixed Langmuir monolayers of amphotericin B (AmB) and dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline (DPPC) were investigated by recording surface pressure−area (π−A) isotherms in addition to Brewster angle microscopy. The analyses π−A compressional modulus curves indicate the existence interactions AmB−DPPC system; greatest found occur for a ca. 2:1 AmB/DPPC mixture. For this mixed monolayer (XAmB = 0.66), formation stable complex, composed two horizontally oriented AmB molecules one DPPC molecule vertical position, is suggested. mixtures containing excess as compared stoichiometric mixture complex > film-forming components are miscible consists complexes together with (at pressures below first transition) or vertically above free molecules. On other hand, XAmB < 0.66) be at second transition. However, system becomes immiscible higher pressures.
