ABSTRACT
Reductive alkylation of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) using lithium and alkyl halides in liquid ammonia yields sidewall functionalized that are soluble common organic solvents. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) high-resolution tunneling electron (HRTEM) dodecylated SWNTs prepared from raw HiPco show extensive debundling has occurred. GC-MS analysis the byproduct hydrocarbons demonstrates radicals intermediates step.
