ABSTRACT
We studied the between-tree and within-tree variation in composition content of foliar low-molecular-weight phenolics (LMWP) European white birch (Betula pendula Roth) during unfolding vegetative buds early leaf development. In buds, major groups phenolic compounds were hydrolysable tannins flavonoid aglycones, whereas, later development, glycosides accounted for most total LMWP. The LMWP, as well individual compounds, varied largely among trees, while within an tree was low. biosynthetic origin or compound is discussed order to explain main patterns chemistry bud
