Coping and communication-enhancing intervention versus supportive counseling for women diagnosed with gynecological cancers.

ABSTRACT
This study compared the efficacy of 2 psychological interventions, a coping and communication-enhancing intervention (CCI) supportive counseling (SC), in reducing depressive symptoms cancer-specific distress women diagnosed with gynecological cancer. Demographic, medical, moderators effects were evaluated. Three hundred fifty-three cancer randomly assigned to 7 sessions CCI, SC, or usual care. Intent-to-treat growth curve analyses indicated that participants CCI SC reported lower than care at 6- 9-month follow-ups. Women greater average increases physician-rated physical and/or who more expressive positive emotions benefited from symptom scores less emotions. These findings suggest both interventions may be effective treating among patients Future research should evaluate whether bolstering additional topics disease trajectory will result persistent long-term effects.
