ABSTRACT
The performance of 210 2nd graders in different areas mathematical cognition was examined. Children were divided into 4 achievement groups: children with difficulties mathematics but not reading (MD-only), both and (MD/RD), mathematics, normal achievement. Although MD groups performed worse than normally achieving most cognition, the MD-only group showed an advantage over MD/RD exact calculation arithmetic combinations problem solving. 2 did differ approximate understanding place value written computation. seem to be superior that may mediated by language ones rely on numerical magnitudes, visuospatial processing, automaticity.
