ABSTRACT
Understanding what factors influence positive youth development has been advocated by researchers (P. L. Benson, 2006; J. S. Eccles & A. Gootman, 2002). Consequently, the purpose of this study was to examine whether perceptions a caring sport context influenced prosocial and antisocial behavior through efficacy-related beliefs, that is, negative affective self-regulatory efficacy (ASRE) empathic self-efficacy (ESE). Multiethnic youths taking part in summer programs (N = 395) completed questionnaire measured climate, ESE, ASRE, social behavior. Structural equation modeling used test ASRE ESE mediated relationship between behaviors. Findings revealed positively predicted ESE. In turn, Prosocial behaviors were linked whereas negatively ASRE. The results suggest influences because such contexts develop youths' ability monitor, manage, control affect, which turn enhances their belief empathize.
