Lifetime suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in Asian Americans.

ABSTRACT
Few studies have examined the role of culturally relevant factors in suicidal behavior among Asian Americans. Using National Latino and American Study (NLAAS) (Alegria et al., 2004; Heeringa 2004), current study related variables (family conflict, perceived discrimination, ethnic identity) on ideation suicide attempts a nationally representative sample 2,095 Important covariates were sociodemographic characteristics (gender, age, marital status, years education, household poverty, nativity status), depressive anxiety disorders, number chronic conditions. Gender correlates also explored. The lifetime prevalence was 8.8% 2.5%, respectively. Female gender, family presence or disorders positively correlated with attempts. A high level identification one's group associated lower rates Among men, but not women, medical conditions ideation. Findings highlight contributions to risk cultural gender differences
