ABSTRACT
Ostracism, that is, being excluded and ignored by others, is a highly painful threatening experience for individuals.Most empirical research on ostracism has been carried out in the lab or focused samples specific contexts.Here, we investigate effects of age how individuals within broad, representative sample adult German population (the Socio-Economic Panel).We find generally negative relation between age, such older adults report experiencing less frequently.Further analyses show particular dip frequency curve around 65 might be at least partly due to leaving workforce.We further crosssectional as well longitudinal relations psychological well-being, showing relatively stable associations emotions, reduced life satisfaction, dysfunctional social behavior across span.
