ABSTRACT
IN the fat-synthesizing red yeast Rhodotorula gracilis Rennerfelt fat synthesis occurs simultaneously with carotenoid synthesis. Since Turian1 and Good-win2 found that carotenogenesis in Mycobacterium phlei and in Phycomyces blakesleeanus can be inhibited by diphenylamine, we thought it of interest to see whether carotenoid and fat synthesis in R. gracilis might be separated by the action of diphenylamine.
