Efficacy of clonidine and of methadone in the rapid detoxification of patients dependent on heroin

ABSTRACT
The efficacy of a rapid detoxification schedule (8 to 10 days) with clonidine or methadone was evaluated in 30 patients addicted heroin. dose study drug preestablished according the subject's weight and amount opioid consumption, total daily reduced by approximately 15% during study. All subjects completed program stayed hospital for at least 12 days. Clonidine therapies proved be highly effective. There marked reduction anxiety detoxification, although subjects' experiences differed used. On day discharge, who had received still attenuated withdrawal symptoms, whereas there were no such symptoms group. Muscular aching, flatulence, drowsiness more common among group, while group sleep disturbances weeping.
