ABSTRACT
Abstract Objective: To investigate the usefulness of anthropometry and DXA in predicting intra‐abdominal fat (IAF) obese men women. Research Methods Procedures: Observational, cross sectional study 22 women 18 with a body mass index 30 or above. IAF from 20 cm above 10 below L4 to L5 intervertebral disc was measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as reference method. Central abdominal upper border L2 lower DXA. Waist hip circumferences were also measured. Results: In DXA, waist circumference waist‐hip ratio equally well correlated ( r = 0.74, 0.75, 0.70, respectively). moderately MRI 0.46), whereas not significantly IAF. Discussion: The prediction subjects highly dependent on sex more than non‐obese persons. Anthropometry useful women, had no predictive power only acceptable predictor men.
