ABSTRACT
Recently, accumulated evidence has indicated a role of inflammation in the pathogenesis major depressive disorder (MDD). Therefore, we evaluated relationship between white matter integrity and serum cytokine levels during first episode drug-naive MDD patients, using tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) method. A total 35 patients with healthy subjects (HS) underwent diffusion tensor imaging, an analysis was conducted TBSS. We measured (interleukin [IL]-1β, IL-6, interferon-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α). Fractional anisotropy (FA) values bilateral inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) genu corpus callosum were decreased significantly to HS (p < 0.05 family-wise error [FWE] correction) inversely correlated IL-1β 0.05, FWE correction). No regions showed correlation FA other levels. Our results suggested that microstructural changes IFOF are associated high early stage MDD.
