ABSTRACT
Within cells, motor and non-motor microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) simultaneously converge on the microtubule. How binding activities of MAPs are coordinated how they contribute to balance distribution transport is unknown. Here, we examine relationship between MAP7 tau owing their antagonistic roles in vivo. We find that compete for microtubules, determine a mechanism by which displaces from lattice. promotes kinesin-based vivo strongly recruits kinesin-1 microtubule vitro, providing evidence direct enhancement motility MAP. Both inhibit kinesin-3 have no effect cytoplasmic dynein, demonstrating differentially control distinct classes motors. Overall, these results reveal general principle MAP competition dictates access correct activity.
