ABSTRACT
Abstract The construction of thin film heterostructures has been a widely successful archetype for fabricating materials with emergent physical properties. This strategy is particular importance the design multilayer magnetic architectures in which direct interfacial spin-spin interactions between phases dissimilar layers lead to and controllable behavior. However, crystallographic incommensurability atomic-scale disorder can severely limit types amenable this strategy, as well performance these systems. Here, we demonstrate method synthesizing comprising intercalation compounds transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), through directed topotactic reaction TMD oxide. mechanism enables thermally initiated from lithographically patterned oxide films, giving access family multi-component combination deterministic van der Waals assembly chemistry.
