ABSTRACT
Abstract Magnesium (Mg) alloys are becoming increasingly important in the biomedical field as temporary bone implants. However, biodegradation process of Mg is highly complex and recent findings suggest that oxygen (O 2 ) consumption non-negligible. In this study, we give experimental proof O during degradation under physiological conditions. Specifically, study pure Mg, Mg–6 wt%Ag Mg–5 wt%Gd Hanks’ balanced salt solution Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium. We show hydrogen evolution inversely correlated concentrations remain below 7.5% certain cases, which could have significant implications for healing.
