Enhanced CO2 uptake of the coastal ocean is dominated by biological carbon fixation

ABSTRACT
Abstract Observational reconstructions indicate a contemporary increase in coastal ocean CO 2 uptake. However, the mechanisms and their relative importance driving this globally intensifying absorption remain unclear. Here we integrate carbon dynamics global model via regional grid refinement enhanced process representation. We find that increasing sink is primarily driven by biological responses to climate-induced changes circulation (36%) riverine nutrient loads (23%), together exceeding solubility pump (41%). The impact mediated export of organic across shelf break, thereby adding enrichment open ocean. contribution fixation increases as seawater capacity hold decreases under continuous climate change acidification. Our seamless integration advances cycle realism, which relevant for addressing impacts mitigation efforts.
