ABSTRACT
Abstract The wild boar Sus scrofa is one of the widely spread ungulate species in Europe, yet origin and genetic structure population inhabiting Central Eastern Europe are not well recognized. We analysed 101 newly obtained sequences complete mtDNA genomes 548 D-loop combined them with previously published data. identified five phylogenetic clades clear phylogeographic pattern. Two occurred mainly western central part continent, while range third clade covered North-Eastern, South-Eastern Europe. two other had rather restricted distribution. In we a contact zone three clades. Population reflected pattern this contribution lineages originating from southern (Dinaric-Balkan) eastern (northern cost Black Sea) areas to observed was larger than those regions located France, Iberian, Italian Peninsulas. present work first mitogenomic analysis conducted study diversity population.
