ABSTRACT
In plants, microRNAs (miRNAs) play essential roles in growth, development, yield, stress response and interactions with pathogens. However no miRNA has been experimentally documented to be functionally involved fruit ripening although many miRNAs have profiled fruits. Here we show that SlymiR157 SlymiR156 differentially modulate softening tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). is expressed developmentally regulated normal fruits those of the Colourless non-ripening (Cnr) epimutant. It regulates expression key gene LeSPL-CNR a likely dose-dependent manner through miRNA-induced mRNA degradation translation repression. Viral delivery either pre-SlymiR157 or mature results delayed ripening. Furthermore, qRT-PCR profiling regulatory genes indicates SlymiR157-target may affect LeMADS-RIN, LeHB1, SlAP2a SlTAGL1. does not onset ripening, but it impacts after red ripe stage. Our findings reveal working together network transcription factors, form critical additional layer control over process tomato.
