ABSTRACT
Abstract Previous investigations on photosynthesis have been performed leaves irradiated from the adaxial surface. However, usually sway because of wind. This action results in alternating exposure both and abaxial surfaces to bright sunlight. To simulate alternant irradiation (ad-ab-alt irradiation), or surface were exposed light regimes that fluctuated between 100 1,000 μmol m −2 s −1 . Compared with constant irradiation, simulated ad-ab-alt suppressed net photosynthetic rate (Pn) transpiration (E) but not water use efficiency. These suppressions aggravated by an increase frequency intensity. When transferred maximum Pn E during high period decreased, induction this remained constant. The sensitivity gas exchange was lower than Under higher measured compared Therefore, bifacial can fix more carbon two “sun-leaf-like” under irradiation. Photosynthetic research should be conducted dynamic conditions better mimic nature.
