ABSTRACT
Abstract Fresh platelet-rich plasma (PRP) accelerates bone union in rat model. However, fresh PRP has a short half-life. We suggested freeze-dried (FD-PRP) prepared advance and investigated its efficacy vivo . Spinal posterolateral fusion was performed on 8-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into six groups based the graft materials (n = 10 per group): sham control, artificial (A hydroxyapatite–collagen composite) –alone, autologous bone, + fresh-PRP, FD-PRP preserved 8 weeks, human recombinant morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP) as positive control. At 4 weeks after surgery, we their union–related characteristics including amount of formation, histological trabecular at remodeling site, biomechanical strength 3-point bending. Comparable radiological confirmed surgery 80% groups, which earlier than other (p < 0.05). Histologically, had thinner more branches FD-PRP. Moreover, comparable to that bone. accelerated rate BMP by with thinner, tangled, rigid
