ABSTRACT
Beta-agonist compounds can be misused in food-producing animals for growth promoting purposes. Efficient methods based on mass spectrometry detection have been developed to ensure the control of such veterinary drug residues. Nevertheless, use "cocktails" composed mixtures low amounts several substances as well synthesis new unknown structure prevent efficient prevention. To circumvent those problems, analytical tools able detect abuse are today mandatory. In this context, metabolomics may represent a emerging strategy investigating global physiological effects associated family and therefore, suspect administration beta-agonists (either or compounds). As first demonstration feasibility, an untargeted metabolomic approach liquid chromatography coupled high resolution measurements was made it possible highlight metabolic modifications urine consecutively clenbuterol administration. By means chemometrics, differences were used build predictive models calves. This considered valuable interest overcome current limitations promoters' abuse, with promising perspectives terms screening.
