ABSTRACT
YVO4:Eu3+ of four different morphologies was successfully synthesized by simply varying the pH under hydrothermal conditions. Systematic characterization indicates that increasing from 3 to 14, morphology changed uniform hollow microspheres, potato-cakes, microhamburgers, lichee-like architectures in sequence, which is followed a colour variation wine, red-purple, pink-purple, red. Among all morphologies, shape showed superior luminescence performance as represented high quantum efficiency 55.5% and long lifetime 1.15 ms. Such morphology-sensitive property first interpreted terms defect chemistry. The findings reported this work are fundamentally important, may give deep insight into origin morphology-dependent properties necessary for exploring new luminescent materials.
