ABSTRACT
The corrosion and dendritic growth of the Zn anode limit its electrochemical performance in aqueous batteries. Here, we present an amphoteric betaine additive for 5 m ZnCl2 electrolyte. carboxyl group on forms hydrogen bonds with water reduces activity. molecule also experiences preferential adsorption surface separates interactions between water. Side reactions at electrode are thus inhibited. regulated interface ensures uniform deposition. As a result, electrolyte allows reversible plating/stripping over 1400 h 0.5 mA cm-2. A capacity retention 94% is obtained after 3000 cycles VO2 cathode.
