ABSTRACT
1. After injection of [6-(3)H]glucosamine into 8-day-old rats it was found that all the major brain gangliosides and their sialyl groups were labelled at essentially same rate, except hematoside, which least labelled. In 18-day-old two with (2-->8)-sialyl linkage, more than Tay-Sachs ganglioside, other respective groups. 2. No difference in any cases studied between specific radioactivities neuraminidase-resistant -labile belonging to ganglioside. The for galactosyl proximal distal ceramide moiety total from injected [U-(14)C]glucose. From this concluded partial turnover ganglioside molecule does not occur. 3. A model synthesis is presented accounts results previous experiments vitro lack precursor-product relationships observed vivo.
