ABSTRACT
SUMMARY Palaeomagnetic and geochemical studies on Devonian sedimentary rocks in the Valley Ridge province West Virginia indicate that hypothesized relationship between orogenic fluids remagnetization is not straightforward. The Helderberg Group, an aquitard, Oriskany Formation, a palaeoaquifer, both contain similar, synfolding late Palaeozoic chemical remanent magnetizations (CRMs) residing magnetite. results from Formation are consistent with by because unit contains evidence for migration of such fluids. In contrast, there no widespread into Group thus CRM cannot be related to Another mechanism, which remains elusive, must responsible Group.
