ABSTRACT
Abstract Five ultrasound laboratories from Obstetrics and Gynecology departments of Belgian university hospitals or affiliated institutions conducted a prospective study 1984 to 1992 in which the results prenatal examinations were compared examination reports neonates. The period 1984–89 (PI) have been published previously, those 1990–92 (PII) are presented here. Some very minor congenital anomalies, as listed. defined EUROCAT Register, excluded. Of 26 147 pregnant women at normal risk for 25 046 had least one scan (96%). A total 616 fetuses structurally abnormal (prevalence 2.42%), 685 abnormalities recorded. sensitivity test was 40.4% PI 51.1% PII ( p < 0.05) 45% 64% 0.01). specificity 99.9%) positive negative predictive values 94.2% 98.6%, respectively; these did not differ significantly between two periods. detection anomalies before 23 weeks increased 21% 41% PII, indicating an improvement early fetal abnormalities.
