ABSTRACT
Evidence suggests that cardiac remodeling, including left ventricular hypertrophy and myocardial fibrosis, develops with progression of kidney disease. Few studies have examined pathology across a range estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFRs), which was the objective this investigation.Population-based cross-sectional study deceased patients undergoing autopsy.334 694 consecutive autopsy available tissue, prior health examination within 6 years without diagnosis heart disease.eGFR.The thickness wall, sizes cells, percentages from samples.Generalized estimating equations.Lower eGFRs were associated greater wall thickness. Deceased eGFRs≥60, 45 to 59, 30 44, <30mL/min/1.73m2 had thicknesses 9.1, 9.5, 9.8, 10.3mm, respectively (P for trend<0.05). Lower also significantly mean values cell size in after adjusting confounders: 15.3, 16.1, 16.4, 17.4μm trend<0.01). Patients lower higher multivariable-adjusted geometric fibrosis percentage wall: 3.22%, 4.33%, 3.83%, 6.14% trend<0.001). The negative association eGFR width stronger among than those anemia.Cross-sectional high proportion elderly patients, no information severity or duration hypertension other cardiovascular risk factors, medication use. These findings suggest reduced is ventricle, enlargement, fibrosis.
