ABSTRACT
Aim This article evaluates the practice patterns of European Pediatric Surgeons' Association (EUPSA) members regarding timing inguinal hernia (IH) repair in premature infants. Methods Online survey containing 29 questions distributed to EUPSA during January 2023. Results A total 180 responds were received. Overall, IH prior discharge was favored by 60% respondents when there a history incarceration and 56% not. In case very/extremely infants (< 32 weeks) with no incarceration, fewer (43%) postpone surgery until after discharge. The majority cited risk as reason for advocating discharge, whereas reduced apnea most who prefer delayed surgery. Open approach under general anesthesia 54% respondents, 27% them preferring open spinal anesthesia. Laparoscopic is used 11% while 7% preferred all including extremely/very ones. Contralateral side evaluation never done 40% 29% only performed it laparoscopic repair. (77%) indicated that they have an overnight stay policy < 45 weeks gestation.
