ABSTRACT
The occurrence of a "rebound hypercoagulable state" in patients after dicontinuation oral anticoagulants is still matter debate and no definite recommendation can be made on the best procedure for anticoagulant withdrawal. present study investigated changes levels markers activated blood coagulation 32 (pts) whom warfarin treatment (for venous thromboembolic disease) was randomly withdrawn abruptly (n = 17, group A) or gradually 15, B: 2/3 initial dose 1st week, 1/3 2nd weeks nothing from 3rd week on). Blood sampled at baseline, once first three 2 months. At A had significantly higher F1+2 TAT values (p < 0.001); remained 0.05) though INR were not different those B. After than normal recorded 32/66 (48%) controls vs 15/60 (25%) B 0.01); 10/17 (59%) 1/15 (7%) 0.01). areas under curve (AUC) maximum concentrations all variables statistically two groups; however, very high observed few cases A. Thrombotic events (one DVT recurrence one thrombophlebitis varicose vein) occurred pts A, both with AUC values.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
