ABSTRACT
Objective This is a systematic review of the literature on spontaneous course hearing in patients observed with vestibular schwannoma. Included studies are appraised using Grading Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. Design PubMed, Embase, Medline, Cochrane library, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing Allied Health Literature) were searched for Participants Of 217 evaluated papers, 15 included, representing total 2,142 patients. Main Outcome Measures Hearing according AAO-HNS (American Academy Otorhinolaryngology- Head Neck Surgery) classification Weighted average proportion preserving good (>70% discrimination score pure tone audiometry [PTA] < 30dB) serviceable (>50% PTA 50dB) was determined. Results Fifty percent presenting at diagnosis had preserved this after mean 5 years observation, whereas 54%. Patients normal preserve their very well. Very few exist long-term preservation.
