Levodopa-induced dyskinesia is still a major clinical problem in Brazilian movement disorder clinics

ABSTRACT
Abstract Levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) remains a significant motor complication in Parkinson's disease (PD), although opinions differ on its clinical relevance. To explore the current prevalence and impact of LID, we analyzed two cohorts from Latin American Research Consortium Genetics Disease movement disorder clinics city São Paulo, Brazil, recruited 10 years apart. The included 187 individuals diagnosed with PD phase 1 (2007–2014) 224 2 (2021–2022). presence functional LID were measured using part IV (items 4.1 4.2 respectively) Movement Disorder Society Unified Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS). analysis revealed that frequency increased 34.7 to 54.9% (more recent), rising 25.1 38.8%. findings suggest relevant issue specialized disorders no reduction throughout last decade. Further studies other regions less neurology centers may help understand this Brazil developing countries.
