Patient education is considered to be a major feature of medical rehabilitation in chronic disorders. The sciences research programme funded by the German Pension Insurance scheme and Federal Ministry Education Research comprises considerable number evaluation studies carried out with methodological rigor. Over two funding periods, patient programmes were developed evaluated respect their medical, psychosocial, occupational economic effects. In this article, conceptual definition presented. When integrating these into previous taking both national international perspective, it can concluded that effective regarding psychosocial socio-economic outcomes, although effects sizes may vary.
