Large second-harmonic response of C60 thin films

Second harmonic generation measurements were performed using 1.064 μm pulses provided by a Nd:YAG laser. A bulk second-order susceptibility χ(2)z, zz = 2.1 × 10 − 9 esu was observed at room temperature, which is about 1.5 times the χ(2) value of quartz. values in poling field studied as function temperature; largest occurred nominal temperature 140 °C where ten larger than value.
