ABSTRACT
Many existing and envisioned classes of implantable biomedical devices require high performance electronicssensors. An approach that avoids some the longer term challenges in biocompatibility involves a construction which parts or all system resorbs body over time. This paper describes strategies for integrating single crystalline silicon electronics, where is form nanomembranes, onto water soluble biocompatible silk substrates. Electrical, bending, dissolution, animal toxicity studies suggest this might provide many opportunities future clinical applications.
