ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to provide an independent, comprehensive, critical review the ‘‘renormalization group’’ theory turbulence developed by Yakhot and Orszag [J. Sci. Comput. 1, 3 (1986)]. first part a confirmation their basic for Navier–Stokes equations, followed discussion approximations in scale removal procedure. main examines YO derivations velocity-derivative skewness transport equation energy dissipation rate ℰ. An algebraic error derivation corrected. Several problems are identified ℰ which suggest that should be reformulated. present has become basis such reformulation, published separately Smith.
