ABSTRACT
Pressure waves possess many significant applications in the oil and gas drilling engineering field, such as mud pulse telemetry (MPT) measurement while (MWD). The focus of this research is to study pressure wave propagation attenuation characteristics wellbore liquid-phase flow managed (MPD) by fast switching throttle valve (FSTV). First, a mathematical model transient along both upstream downstream directions proposed MPD FSTV based on one-dimensional theory. considering frictional shear effect between pipe walls solved utilizing method characteristics. Meanwhile, boundary conditions at drill string inlet annulus outlet, valve, junction bit, reducer are adequately taken into account according actual situation fluid flow. Second, laboratory experiment excited vertical conducted measure variation fluctuation with different pump rates FSTV. Comparing result, calculation result discovered that overall change consistent, where maximum absolute relative error peak only 4.5%. Finally, it further analyzes influential factors affecting behaviors model. results indicate waveforms present sinusoidal propagation, rates, speed, excitation time, type, density, viscosity, borehole size exert varying degrees influence downhole fluctuations. achieves accurate quantitative interpretation analysis FSTV, which has important significance for realization safe efficient drilling.
