ABSTRACT
Significance Microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract interact with their host many ways. Lipid metabolism by microbes generates multiple fatty acid species that can affect health. In representative gut bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum , we revealed a metabolism, saturation of polyunsaturated acid, hydroxy acids, oxo conjugated and partially saturated trans -fatty acids as intermediates. Furthermore, analysis mice suggests modifies composition host. Therefore, functional investigations lipid metabolisms may provide new methods for improving our health altering related to onset metabolic syndrome.
