ABSTRACT
Significance Although plant metabolites are critical for both and human nutrition, the genetic control of metabolome remains largely unknown. Here, a analysis rice resulted in identification hundreds metabolic quantitative trait loci with high resolution large effects. We observed distinct overlapping accumulation patterns complex regulation metabolism different tissues. Twenty-four candidate genes, mainly those underlying phenolics, were assigned corresponding pathways reconstructed rice. This study demonstrated powerful tool provided vast amount high-quality data understanding biochemical basis metabolome. It is also valuable crop improvement through metabolomics-assisted breeding.
